Matt's Tips Before Initial Meeting
See a printer-friendly version.
- Start At the Beginning:
Think about your home- what's bugging you? What's not working anymore? Write these things down, don't worry about the physical design- just get your ideas down- we can help with the rest.
Example:
"I wish my kitchen opened up to a family gathering spot. I wish it had a fireplace and a place for the kids to do their homework."
"We need more room and I wish the house was more open for when friends come over and we entertain."
Together we will come up with a working design.
- Put Together a Budget:
This is no fun, but with the wide array of building finishes and products out there you need to have a range of budget. We can then better work together to stay within your budget while still trying to meet your goals of your renovation.
Some people find a budget by finding out what other homes that are up to date are selling for in your neighborhood. They think about the difference between these currant selling homes and the price you paid for your home. This difference can be a good indicator if you are thinking you might move in the next year or so. If you are not planning on moving for 3 to 4 years this becomes a less important factor.
- Get All of Your Answers Up Front:
Once we have an idea for your design and a budget has been established let's talk about the time frame. We pride ourselves in being prepared to finish your job quickly so we can get your family back to your way of living.
Renovations are an inconvenience to you and your family. We will work hard at preparing you through every part of the construction phase to make this as easy as we can on you. Our goal is that when we get started you will have a time frame and can keep your eye on the prize.
At TMP planning your job and quality of our work are two of the most important aspects of our business.
- Look Around:
As you are thinking of your new renovation- look through magazines, make a file of different looks that you like. Maybe you will see a mantle you like here and windows you like in another picture. Put sticky notes on them and pull them out and make a file. This will help greatly when designing your job. Take photos of items you like. Go ahead and notice light fixtures, appliances and paint colors. All of these items can help you have exactly the look that you are looking for.
- Find a Contractor:
Even the smallest remodeling project is complex and involves many people, city and county inspectors and officials, tradesmen, craftsmen, vendors, material, etc. To be able to put all of this together in a timely manner takes skill and management. We hear horror stories about contractors who took forever to finish a project because they were "good craftsmen" but "terrible managers."
You don't have to choose between the two when you hire TMP Construction.
TMP prides ourselves on putting together a job that will ensure it is completed on time, within your budget and with top quality throughout.
